Position Summary

The Town of White City Seasonal Technician reports to the Town Foreman and Manager of Public Works and ensures efficient operation and maintenance of all Town assets, this position is directed towards a Horticulturist/Arborist background. 

The primary role of this position will be to ensure all town-owned trees, shrub beds, flower beds and flowerpots are properly pruned, consist of no deadfall and to eliminate any hazardous branches/limbs and any bugs or diseases they may carry.  This position also carries the potential to turn into full-time, permanent employment. As an assistant technician you will also be required to but not limited to the following.

 

Term and Compensation:

Employment Term: Temporary Full-Time, April 1 to October 31, 2026
Salary Range: $15.96 - $23.94 per hour

Key Duties:

  • Road maintenance including pothole repairs, and crack sealing
  • Park maintenance includes grass cutting, flower beds, and maintenance.
  • Equipment operation and maintenance may include zero tun mowers, push mowers, weed whackers and hand tools
  • Water meter installation
  • Water and sewer system maintenance
  • Pesticide application (if licensed)
  • Update equipment maintenance log
  • Public Relations effectively handle resident concerns
  • Attend to spring and fall clean up bins
  • Maintain garbage and recycle bins throughout the community
  • Street sign replacement and maintenance.
  • School zone, street and cross walk line painting
  • Minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Culvert maintenance, unfreezing, remove silt and marking culvert ends for safety
  • Execute spring and fall leaf and branch chipping programs
  • Maintain town irrigation systems, including Bower West 2&3 detention pond pumps, fall blow outs, damage to residents’ systems along roadways
  • Deal with all rodent and pest controls.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma, or equivalent.
  • 3 months to 1 year of direct work experience in a general laborer/maintenance capacity.
  • Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s License and safe driving record.
  • Must be in excellent physical shape
  • Chainsaw Safety Training (Not required but considered an asset)
  • Prairie Horticulture certificate (Not required but considered an asset)
  • Landscape pesticide applicator (Not required but considered an asset)
  • First Aid and CPR (Not required but considered an asset)
  • Able to obtain all required safety training certificates.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal.
  • Understanding of WorkSafe Saskatchewan regulations and related work practices.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workloads. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
