Position Summary

The primary function of this position is the preparation and maintenance of various sports fields, parks, and recreational areas, including ball diamonds, outdoor rink space, football and soccer fields, tennis/pickleball courts, skate parks, splash parks, and playgrounds.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare ball diamonds, including lining fields, installing bases, and prepping infield surfaces.
  • Maintain ball diamond facilities such as batting cages, batter’s boxes, and pitching mounds.
  • Oversee scheduling and coordination of outdoor sports field usage.
  • Manage irrigation systems and ensure proper upkeep of athletic fields.
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks, including sanitizing park features, high-touch areas, and playground equipment.
  • Carry out park maintenance duties such as grass cutting, turf care, garbage collection, weed trimming, watering flowers and trees, and litter removal.
  • Operate equipment such as trucks, mowers, hand tools, and power tools, ensuring safe operation and regular preventive maintenance.
  • Assist with safety inspections of play structures.
  • Provide support for town events, including Summer Sizzle, Council BBQ, Movie in the Park, and other community gatherings.
  • Contribute to capital projects as needed.
  • Serve as custodial backup for facilities when required.
  • Prepare timesheets, documenting work performed, hours worked, and absences.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and a self-starting attitude.

  • Sound judgment and initiative in completing work assignments efficiently and effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a proven ability to interact professionally with the public.
  • Dependable and reliable, consistently fulfilling responsibilities and meeting expectations.

Education and Experience:

  • A valid Saskatchewan Class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Previous experience operating power equipment is essential.
  • General mechanical knowledge is considered an asset.
  • Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for the Canada Summer Jobs grant program.

Working Conditions:

  • Employment period: May 5, 2025 – August 22, 2025.
  • Start and end dates can be adjusted if necessary.
  • Flexible start and end times, though typical working hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Weekend and evening hours may be necessary, depending on program and event schedules.
  • Limited travel may be required.
  • Occasional peak periods will require an increased work pace to meet deadlines, which may involve added pressure.

 Salary:

  • $17-19/hour based on experience.  
  • Vacation earned: 3/52 times earning paid on every cheque.
  • Payment through electronic deposit every 2 weeks.
  • Overtime: 1.5 times wage when worked.
