World Town Planning Day
Today is World Town Planning Day! Celebrated on November 8, World Town Planning Day is an international day celebrating the accomplishments of planners and their contributions to their communities. Planners around the world and Saskatchewan are involved in a number of different areas like transportation, development, environment, housing, tourism, infrastructure, railways, heritage and more.
White City’s Planning Department has been led by Mauricio Jimenez, Town Planner since October 2013. Mauricio has a Bachelor’s of Geography with emphasis on land use planning and a Master’s of Geography with a focus on water conservation and water use management. He is a certified planner with the Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute and the Canadian Institute of Planners. Mauricio began his career as a planner in Saskatchewan with the Community Planning Branch of the Ministry of Government Relations where he gained experience and understanding in land use planning and subdivisions, development proposals, development policies, planning bylaws amendments and consultation processes as well as experience in environmental problems and management issues, water resources and conservation. With an extended background in GIS (Geographical Information Systems), CAD (Computer Aided Design), and planning, he has also worked on multiple planning projects and initiatives throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
